Congratulations, you have just set-up your own start up business.
If you have not invested in digital marketing yet, what you are about to read next is going to be appealing.
So, you have decided to create a best website design. You spent countless hours programming and selecting your website design or you might have even paid a large sum of money to an overrated web design agency at a startup weekend.
At first, it may seem you are all good and set to soar but then after 2 months you realize you are still not getting any traffic, nor any form of activity.
At this point, you may start asking yourself questions such as:
What went wrong?
Why does nobody seem interested?
Is it because of my website or is my product that bad?
Is the Internet over-rated after all?
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one facing this situation. It is a common problem.
Most people know that having a website is mandatory nowadays and that the Internet is the place to be.
What they don’t understand is why exactly and more importantly how to deal with it.
In 1994, there were less than 3,000 websites online.
In 2014, there were more than a billion.
This represents a 33 million percent of increase in 20 years! And as we are publishing this article, there are more than 1,188 billion websites worldwide and it never stops growing!
Now you may wonder, with these many websites which are continuously growing how do I make my website domain? Is it even possible?
Well, we have the answers for you.
The answer is simple: last April, Google combined 92.49% of the world Internet research. The rest of the competition shared the remaining with only 2.89% for Bing and 2.01% for Yahoo.
Why the first page?
Because page 1 placement is where more than 90% of Google traffic goes.
Only 5% of people click on a link placed on page 2 and literally no one goes further. If you want to hide a dead body, hide it on the second page of Google.
But being on the first page is not enough.
Aim to be at the top 3, as the first three results combine more than 60% of the clicks and the first result drains 32% of the traffic.
A common misconception is that having a website is enough to list your new business online.
It is a good start, but as you could see, its existence is far from being enough. You must make it visible and this is when digital marketing comes to help you out.
You can have the best product in the world but if it is not visible, you cannot expect it to sell. Same goes for your website. You might have the best web, but if it is not accessible, don’t expect visitors.
That’s a valid question. Why spend time, energy or money to have visibility online if you are selling your products in a retail store?
The truth is that Internet is so integrated to our lives, that consumers check it all the time, even before buying offline. They want to know about the stocks, the closest shop, reviews from other buyers, or they may just want to compare prices.
According to a study lead by DigitasLBi in 12 countries – including Singapore, this behavior, called ROPO (ROBO) - Research Online, Buy Offline, is already represented by 88% of the consumers in 2014.
It means that every minute you spend without online visibility, you are losing clients to your competitor, the one with a store right across the street. His product might not be as good as yours, but at least people know that he exists and where to find him.
There are different ways of building a strong web presence.
Depending on your needs - do you want to focus on branding? Or do you want to generate quick leads? Are you working on a small budget? Are you selling online, offline or both?
A mix that will consist of:
